RESOLUTION NO.
Title
A resolution requesting the Parish President to solicit the DOTD to install guard rails with reflectors at Interstate 310 off ramp at its interchange with westbound U.S. 61, along Airline Drive and as you exit spillway bridge headed east on U.S. 61, and other strategic locations along Airline Drive that open face to the canal.
Body
WHEREAS, numerous accidents have occurred in the past years with vehicles plunging into the canal, one as recent as April 27, 2002 resulting in the death of a 19 year old resident of the River Parish Area; and,
WHEREAS, the removal of the trees along the canal bank on the West Bound side of Airline Drive has created open access to the canal when vehicles lose control, incur accidents, or through general unsolicited road conditions; and,
WHEREAS, in rainy weather, and during high water conditions the exit of the down ramp of Interstate 310 to Westbound U.S. 61 holds water that presents potential dangerous conditions for traffic with the grave possibility of losing control of your vehicle and entering the canal at that point as well as eastbound canal along Airline as you exit spillway.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, do hereby request the Parish President to solicit the DOTD to install guard rails with reflectors at Interstate 310 off ramp at its interchange with westbound U.S. 61, along Airline Drive and as you exit spillway bridge headed east on U.S. 61, and other strategic locations along Airline Drive that open face to the canal.
