Proclamation: "Earth Day"

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Earth Day 2009 is a national and international call to positive action for all citizens to join a global effort to protect the environment; and,
WHEREAS, despite environmental improvements since the first Earth Day in 1970, the environmental health of the planet is increasingly endangered, threatened by global climate change, ozone depletion, growing world population, tropical deforestation, ocean pollution, toxic wastes, desertification, and the loss of biodiversity; and,
WHEREAS, members of society must be environmental ambassadors for the protection and preservation of our Earth planet; and,
WHEREAS, Earth Day 2009 activities and projects will empower citizens to act responsibly toward the environment and adopt positive and conscientious lifestyle habits that protect and preserve local and global ecosystems; and,
WHEREAS, Earth Day 2009 activities and projects will raise awareness about the importance of conserving natural resources by reducing, reusing and recycling, using efficient transportation, and buying and using products and services that are environmentally friendly.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM APRIL 22, 2009, AS
"EARTH DAY"
IN ST. CHARLES PARISH AND ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO SUPPORT LEGISLATION DESIGNED TO PROTECT LOUISIANA'S AND ST. CHARLES PARISH'S ENVIRONMENT AS WELL AS THE EFFORTS OF RESIDENTS TO CREATE A CLEAN, GREEN, AND HEALTHY EARTH.
