P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, during National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month agencies across America renew their efforts to educate all citizens about the tragic consequences of impaired driving and encourage those citizens to drive responsibly; and,
WHEREAS, every year too many Americans get behind the wheel of an automobile after drinking alcohol or using drugs, putting thousands of drivers, passengers and others on the road at risk; and,
WHEREAS, alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes kill someone every 31 minutes and injure someone every 2 minutes (NHTSA); and,
WHEREAS, keeping drunk and drugged drivers off the road is vital for the safety of our loved ones and fellow citizens; and,
WHEREAS, the protection of all citizens from impaired drivers is a priority of all law enforcement agencies; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, DO HEREBY JOIN WITH THE BAYOU COUNCIL ON ALCOHOLISM AND DRUG ABUSE AND PROCLAIM DECEMBER 2006 AS:
"NATIONAL DRUNK AND DRUGGED DRIVING PREVENTION MONTH"
IN ST. CHARLES PARISH, AND URGE COMMUNITY, HEALTH, GOVERNMENT, AND BUSINESS ORGANIZATIONS TO JOIN WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES TO DEMONSTRATE THAT IMPAIRED DRIVING IS UNACCEPTABLE AND ILLEGAL.
