Title
An Ordinance to adjust the compensation of the Constables and Justices of the Peace.
Body
WHEREAS, the current Parish compensation for each Constable and Justice of the Peace is set at $4,379.70 per year; and,
WHEREAS, the current State compensation for each Constable and Justice of the Peace is set at $900.00 per year; and,
WHEREAS, their Parish compensation has not been adjusted since January 1991; and,
WHEREAS it is the desire of the Parish Council to increase their Parish compensation to $5,256.00 per year.
THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL HEREBY ORDAINS:
SECTION I. That the annual compensation of each Constable and Justice of the Peace is hereby set at $5,256.00 per year effective May 1, 2000.
SECTION II. That the annual compensation of each Constable and Justice of the Peace, as established herein, may be adjusted by the same percentage rate as the Cost of Living Adjustment as approved for Civil Service Employees in 2001, and each succeeding year thereafter, providing funding is approved in the annual Parish Consolidated Operating Budget.
SECTION III. That the Parish President shall prepare a budget amendment to the 2000 Budget to allocate the necessary funding for this adjustment.
