IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Dow Chemical Company, formerly Union Carbide Corporation, will celebrate 50 years of operation in St. Charles Parish in 2016; and,
WHEREAS, Union Carbide Corporation's initial startup in Taft occurred in 1966, and 50 years later it continues to be an economic driver and a key business partner to the Hahnville community, St. Charles Parish, and the great State of Louisiana; and,
WHEREAS, products manufactured at the Dow St. Charles Parish facility end up in thousands of household, business, and consumer products that improve everyday life, including plastics, insecticides, antifreeze, brake fluid, paints and adhesives, medical supplies, personal care products, detergents, fabric softeners, animal feed supplements, and more; and,
WHEREAS, Dow is recognized as a Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) STAR Site by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) and an active participant in the American Chemistry Council's (ACC) Responsible Care(r) initiative, in recognition of the company's outstanding achievement and leadership in environmental, health, safety, and security performance; and,
WHEREAS, Dow is committed to community success and improving the quality of life in communities in which they operate around world. As a good corporate neighbor for their 50 years in St. Charles Parish, Dow has been instrumental in leading activities to strengthen families and individuals, enhance education, spurring community growth by attending to social, economic, and environmental needs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby offer this recognition and tribute to
