Title
A resolution in support of the Des Allemands, Bayou Gauche, Paradis Museum Society dedicated to the saving and restoring the former Des Allemands school building for use as a museum to help save and promote the history of the Des Allemands, Bayou Gauche, Paradis area.
Body
WHEREAS, the communities of Des Allemands, Bayou Gauche and Paradis have played a major role in the history of St. Charles Parish for centuries; and,
WHEREAS, in 1923, the Des Allemands School was built and accepted by the St. Charles Parish School Board to be used for grades 1-7; and,
WHEREAS, in 1931, the school was moved to Camardelle Village near Lake Salvador following the construction of a new school in Des Allemands; and,
WHEREAS, in 1941, the school was then moved to Bayou Gauche for use; and,
WHEREAS, in 1958, the school building was moved to its present location where it served as the home of the American Legion for many years; and,
WHEREAS, realizing the historic value of this building to the community, several concerned citizens decided to form a non-profit group to save and restore the building for use as a local museum; and,
WHEREAS, this museum will focus its exhibits on the culture and historical beginnings of the Des Allemands, Bayou Gauche, and Paradis communities; and,
WHEREAS, this non-profit board is actively pursuing 501(c)(3) non-profit status; and,
WHEREAS, achieving this status will assist us in the society's endeavor to obtain corporate, private, and government grants to help cover the costs associated with the restoration of the building; and,
WHEREAS, the restoration of this building is in the best interest of these communities and will play a vital role in saving and promoting the culture and history of Des Allemands, Bayou Gauche, and Paradis; and,
WHEREAS, we the members of the Parish Council commend the Des Allemands, Bayou Gauche, Paradis Muse...
