IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, On January 31, 1974, Governor Edwin Edwards issued a charter to the Voluntary Council on Aging for the Parish of St. Charles to operate a program for the elderly in the Parish; and,
WHEREAS, St. Charles Council on Aging is the primary provider of elderly services in St. Charles Parish for approximately 5,000 senior citizens who are sixty years old and older; and,
WHEREAS, the goal of St. Charles Council on Aging is to provide as many services as possible in the most efficient and effective manner, in order to help as many Senior Citizens as possible enjoy independent, satisfying lives with dignity and self-determination, so that they can remain in their homes for as long as they want to; and,
WHEREAS, St. Charles Council on Aging is governed by a thirteen Member Volunteer Board of Directors, with planning and evaluation support from a twenty-one Member Advisory Council. General membership is open, without restrictions, to all residents of the Parish, 18 years old and older; and,
WHEREAS, the services provided by St. Charles Council on Aging for Senior Citizens include congregating meals at the four senior citizens activity centers, delivering meals for homebound Seniors, transportation in and outside the Parish for medical, personal, and social activities, in-home personal care and homemaker services, home repairs, legal assistance, recreational and social activities, and respite services for family members; and,
WHEREAS, Council on Aging makes St. Charles Parish more “elderly friendly”, helping to ensure that the Parish continues to have a positive quality of life that makes it a desirable and satisfying place to live for all residents as they age.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby offer this tribute and ...
