IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Ben Parquet, a resident of Destrehan, Louisiana in St. Charles Parish, has spent 13 years with the St. Charles Parish School System, working as a junior high math teacher, athletic coach, counselor, and assistant principal; and,
WHEREAS, Ben currently works two days a week as a part-time student advocate, working with young people on a weekly basis to provide guidance and support; and,
WHEREAS, a few years ago Ben decided to retire, the School Board quickly accepted the reality that although he was but one person in a network designed to meet every students needs, the quality Ben possesses were irreplaceable; and,
WHEREAS, Ben has an unquestionable desire to help students make it through school and has the ability to cross racial and economic lines in motivating students to stay on track; and,
WHEREAS, in addition to his work with the school system, Ben also serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Family and Youth Services Center in Luling; and,
WHEREAS, Ben may be "retired" but parents, school board members, and students know who to call when there is a problem; and,
WHEREAS, Ben was recently awarded "Citizen of the Year" in St. Charles Parish.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby offer this tribute and recognition to
BEN PARQUET
"PARISH OF PLENTY"
created in 1807 from the county of the
"German Coast", a parish of
unprecedented economic and social
development, known for its
hospitality, rural living and sporting
opportunitiesÂ… with the added
distinction of being located
on both sides of the
Mighty Mississippi River.
