IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Little League(r) began in Williamsport, Pennsylvania in 1939, and for over 75 years, has rewarded players, families, volunteers, and communities with impactful life lessons centered around the games of baseball and softball; and,
WHEREAS, recognition comes to its pinnacle every August, as more than 130 Little League(r) Baseball and Softball games are televised worldwide on ABC and the ESPN family of networks and the ultimate goal is to advance to play in the World Series in Williamsport; and,
WHEREAS, the Eastbank Little League, is a newly developed franchise, now going on its 2nd year, and is made up of players in the New Orleans Metropolitan area; and,
WHEREAS, the Eastbank 12 year old All-Star Baseball team won their first District Championship on July 11, 2015, in River Ridge, Louisiana and then won the Louisiana Little League State Championship on July 23, 2015, in Bossier City, Louisiana, where they faced powerhouse teams from Lafayette, Bossier City, Avoyelles, and South Lake Charles; and,
WHEREAS, the state title qualified them to advance to represent Louisiana in the 2015 Little League Southwestern Regionals held in Waco, Texas, August 7-13, where they placed 4th, and although they fell short of advancing to the World Series, the team received their national televised debut when each player was interviewed by ESPN and their games were televised on the Longhorn Network; and,
WHEREAS, this year's 12 year old Eastbank All-Star team had three players that are residents of St. Charles Parish, Austin Aucoin, Mason Long, and Drake Simar; and,
WHEREAS, Drake Simar resides in Des Allemands, Louisiana with his parents Jude and Tara Simar and sister Lauren; he is currently a student at J.B. Martin Middle School.
