Proclamation: “Women’s Lung Health Week”

P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, every eight minutes, one woman in the United States loses her battle with lung cancer; and,
WHEREAS, lung cancer is the No. 1 cancer killer of women and men in the United States; and,
WHEREAS, the number of women dying from lung cancer has nearly doubled over the past 30 years; and,
WHEREAS, advocacy and increased awareness will result in more and better treatments and early detection for people with lung cancer that will ultimately save lives; and,
WHEREAS, Lung Force is a fast-growing initiative led by the American Lung Association, with the mission of making lung cancer history, uniting the nation in the fight against lung cancer.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM MAY 9-13, 2016 AS:
"WOMEN’S LUNG HEALTH WEEK”
IN ST. CHARLES PARISH AND ENCOURAGE ALL RESIDENTS TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE DETECTION AND TREATMENT OF LUNG CANCER.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, THAT ON THURSDAY, MAY 12, 2016, ST. CHARLES PARISH WILL JOIN THE LUNG FORCE MOVEMENT AND HAVE A “TURQUOISE TAKEOVER DAY”, URGING ALL CITIZENS TO SHOW THEIR SUPPORT FOR THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY LUNG CANCER BY COMMEMORATING THIS DAY BY WEARING THE COLOR TURQUOISE.
