Title
A resolution requesting the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to lower the Speed Limit on Highway 90 in St. Charles Parish, approximately 300 feet east of Early Street to Highway 306 from 45 MPH to 35 MPH.
Body
WHEREAS, on March 19, 1990, the St. Charles Parish Council adopted Resolution No. 3438 requesting DOTD to reduce the 45 mph speed limit to 35 mph on Highway 90; and,
WHEREAS, on April 20, 2009, the St. Charles Parish Council adopted Resolution No. 5637 asking DOTD to lower the 45 mph speed limit to 35 mph on Highway 90 approximately 300 feet east of Early Street to Highway 306; and,
WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of the Department of Transportation and Development to provide for the safe and orderly movement of traffic on state Highways; and,
WHEREAS, a reduction in highway speed in this area would facilitate a reduction in accidents and near-accidents and the severity of these accidents; and,
WHEREAS, many residents of St. Charles Parish are concerned about the dangerous driving conditions motorists must encounter when driving on Highway 90 in the Paradis area of St. Charles Parish; and,
WHEREAS, with this area being identified as a portion of the I-49 corridor and with increased residential and commercial development in this area, there has been a sufficient increase in motor vehicle traffic; and,
WHEREAS, for the safety of St. Charles Parish residents and all motorists who travel through this area of our community, St. Charles Parish Governing Authority is requesting the implementation of a lower speed limit in this area.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, do hereby request the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to lower the Speed Limit on Highway 90 in St. Charles Parish, approximately 300 feet east of Early Street to Highway 306 from 45 MPH to 35 MPH....
