Proclamation: "March for Babies Week"

P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, more than half a million babies are born prematurely every year, including more than 11,000 in Louisiana; and,
WHEREAS, more than 120,000 babies are born with a serious birth defect every year, including more than 195 in Louisiana; and,
WHEREAS, premature birth takes an enormous toll on families and costs businesses and society billions of dollars every year; and,
WHEREAS, the March of Dimes works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality; and,
WHEREAS, March of Dimes researchers, volunteers, educators, outreach workers, and advocates work together to combat threats to babies' health, including premature birth, birth defects, and low birth weight; and,
WHEREAS, on October 8, 2011, the citizens of St. Charles Parish are walking together for stronger, healthier babies at the "March for Babies" event beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Highway 51 Park, 2900 Highway 51 in LaPlace.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM SEPTEMBER 25 - OCTOBER 1, 2011, AS
"MARCH FOR BABIES WEEK"
IN ST. CHARLES PARISH AND ENCOURAGE ALL CITIZENS TO JOIN "MARCH FOR BABIES" AND SUPPORT THE MARCH OF DIMES' EFFORTS TO RAISE AWARENESS AND FUNDS TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF BABIES; AND,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, THAT WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2011, WILL BE "ST. CHARLES PARISH EMPLOYEES MARCH OF DIMES FESTIVAL FUNDRAISING DAY".
