Proclamation: "St. Charles Parish Bicentennial"

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, prior to 1807, St. Charles Parish was known as the County of the German Coast of the Territory of Orleans; and,
WHEREAS, in 1807, the elected legislative council divided the Territory of Orleans into nineteen parishes; and,
WHEREAS, St. Charles Parish was one of the original nineteen parishes created from the Territory of Orleans; and,
WHEREAS, on April 8, 1812, the Congress of the United States approved the admittance of the State of Louisiana into the Union, to take effect April 30, 1812; and,
WHEREAS, on March 31, 2007, St. Charles Parish will celebrate its 200th birthday; and,
WHEREAS, the St. Charles Parish Bicentennial Committee is planning events to celebrate this historic occasion.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM 2007 AS THE
"ST. CHARLES PARISH BICENTENNIAL"
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, THAT CELEBRATORY EVENTS WILL COMMENCE ON DECEMBER 7, 2006 AT THE TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY AND CONCLUDE AT THE NORCO CHRISTMAS PARADE ON DECEMBER 2, 2007.
