Title
A resolution in support of a request made to Senator Gary L. Smith, Jr., and Representative Gregory A. Miller to have the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to develop a project to raise Highway 90 approximately 3 feet at the Paradis Canal during the 2013 Legislative Session to allow the Sunset Drainage District to tie its levee into Highway 90 in order to eliminate the weakness in the District's hurricane protection system caused by having the low elevation of Highway 90 at this location.
Body
WHEREAS, the St. Charles Parish Council adopted Resolution No. 5577 on September 22, 2008, requesting that the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development take the necessary steps needed to raise U. S. Highway 90 at the Paradis Canal in Paradis; and,
WHEREAS, it is a priority of the Sunset Drainage District be afforded the ability to secure this area of weakness in the system which puts the towns of Des Allemands, Bayou Gauche, and Paradis at risk of flooding; and,
WHEREAS, the raising of Highway 90 will allow the Sunset Drainage District to secure flood protection which is lacking at this location.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, do hereby support the request made to Senator Gary L. Smith, Jr., and Representative Gregory A. Miller to have the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to develop a project to raise Highway 90 approximately 3 feet at the Paradis Canal during the 2013 Legislative Session to allow the Sunset Drainage District to tie its levee into Highway 90 in order to eliminate the weakness in the District's hurricane protection system caused by having the low elevation of Highway 90 at this location.
