IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Waymie & Romalice Lewis have for 17 years opened their hearts and home to children who were abandoned, abused or neglected by their biological parents; and,
WHEREAS, Romalice who is retired from Monsanto & Waymie a Homemaker have been married for 38 years and have given safe haven to over 50 children since 1984; and,
WHEREAS, Waymie & Romalice for their outstanding dedication and commitment to the Foster Care Program were named the Thibodaux Region's 2001 Foster Family of the Year by the Children, Youth and Family Services Division of the Louisiana Department of Social Services; and,
WHEREAS, Waymie & Romalice have also earned this outstanding recognition in 1988; and,
WHEREAS, Waymie & Romalice are exceptional parents and foster parents who provide lots of love, firm nurturing and structure for the children; and,
WHEREAS, Waymie & Romalice have three grown children, and the adopted parents of Melanie, 7 who has been in their care since she was 3 weeks old and presently are caring for three girls, ages 15, 1½ and 11 months; and,
WHEREAS, Waymie & Romalice keep the names and pictures of the children they have cared for over the years and keep in touch with the children who are now grown; and,
WHEREAS, Waymie & Romalice feel spending time together and communication makes their household work. Family talent shows and storytelling are held regularly. Roundtable discussions are held "so everyone can say what's on their mind." The family shops together, enjoys dinner out and attends Mass at St. Charles Borromeo Church.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby offer this tribute and recognition to
WAYMIE & ROMALICE LEWIS
