IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, on February 19, 2008, the Norco Civic Association members met with Parish President V.J. St. Pierre, Jr., and staff to discuss the need for and garner support for the construction of a sidewalk along Fifth Street in Norco; and,
WHEREAS, on February 2, 2009, the St. Charles Parish Council adopted Resolution No. 5616 in support of the project and application for funding through the Federal Highway Administration and Louisiana Department of Transportation and Developments' Safe Routes to School Program; and,
WHEREAS, on March 2, 2009, St. Charles Parish submitted the application as sponsor of the project on behalf of St. Charles Parish Public Schools Norco Elementary School K-3 and Norco Elementary School 4-6, and Sacred Heart of Jesus School for the construction of the sidewalk along Fifth and Spruce Streets in Norco, sidewalk construction and repairs on the schools' grounds, crosswalks, signage, and other non-infrastructure items; and,
WHEREAS, the Norco Civic Association went on record as being in full support of the project by way of a letter citing the importance of the sidewalk to the community emphasizing the use of the sidewalk by the children who attend the schools along Fifth Street; and,
WHEREAS, by way of a letter dated April, 30, 2009, from Ms. Shalanda Cole, MBA, Safe Routes to School Program Coordinator with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, advised that the St. Charles Parish Safe Routes to School Program application was selected for funding in the amount of $272,212.00; and,
WHEREAS, the Norco Civic Association's efforts and support greatly contributed to the success of the project to construct a safer and healthier transportation option for not only the children attending the schools, but for all residents of Norco, Louisiana.
