RESOLUTION NO.
title
A resolution requesting that the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) develop a project to stabilize the north shoreline of Lake Salvador from the existing shoreline protection west of Bayou Couba up to Bayou Couba.
body
WHEREAS, the Lake Salvador area has experienced high rates of land loss caused by shoreline erosion exposing fragile, highly organic marsh substrates to increased wave and tidal energy along the Salvador/Timken Wildlife Management Area; and,
WHEREAS, a portion of the wildlife area shoreline has been protected with a rock shoreline stabilization structure to protect the shoreline and adjacent marsh from wave-induced erosion; and,
WHEREAS, the rock shoreline stabilization structure has successfully and completely eliminated the shoreline erosion where placed, and in fact, has created many acres of new land behind the structure; and,
WHEREAS, there is a dire need for the unprotected area up to Bayou Couba to be protected in addition to other areas in the future; and,
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Parish Council that the completion of the Lake Salvador shoreline protection up to Bayou Couba be developed into an urgent CPRA project.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, do hereby request that the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) develop a project to stabilize the north shoreline of Lake Salvador from the existing shoreline protection west of Bayou Couba up to Bayou Couba....
