RESOLUTION NO. 5321
Title
A resolution to request that President George W. Bush and the United States Congress expedite funding and construction of a Hurricane Protection Levee for the West Bank of St. Charles Parish.
Body
WHEREAS, on May 6, 1998 the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure of the United States House of Representatives authorized the study of the Donaldsonville, Louisiana to the Gulf of Mexico Flood Control Project; and,
WHEREAS, the project area of protection extends from Bayou Lafourche in Lafourche Parish, to the Mississippi River levee in Plaquemines Parish and includes the West Bank of St. Charles Parish; and,
WHEREAS, the Reconnaissance Study for this project was completed in October 2000 and the Feasibility Study began in February 2002 with a scheduled completion date of June 2006; and,
WHEREAS, in order to provide Hurricane Protection to the citizens of the West Bank of St. Charles Parish it is imperative that this project be expedited.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT do hereby request that President George W. Bush and the United States Congress expedite authorization and funding for the Donaldsonville to the Gulf of Mexico Flood Control Project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the United States Army Corps of Engineers is hereby requested to expedite completion of the Feasibility Study and request authorization from the United States Congress to begin construction as soon as possible.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be forwarded to President George W. Bush, Senator Mary Landrieu, Senator David Vitter, Representative Charles Melancon, Representative Bobby Jindal, Representative William J. Jefferson, Representative Jim McCrery, Representative Rodney Alexander, Representative Richard H. Baker, Representative Charles W. Boustany, Jr., Mr. Dona...
