Proclamation: "Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery Day in St. Charles Parish"

P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, each day, an average of nearly three children die in home fires; and,
WHEREAS, eighty percent of fire deaths involving children occur in homes without working smoke alarms; and,
WHEREAS, by providing an early warning and critical extra seconds to escape smoke alarms double a family's chance of getting out of a home fire alive - but only if they work; and,
WHEREAS, the Luling Volunteer Fire Department is joining with the International Association of Fire Chiefs and Fire Department's all across the United States of America to remind citizens to change the batteries in their smoke alarms.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2001, AS
"CHANGE YOUR CLOCK, CHANGE YOUR BATTERY DAY
IN
ST. CHARLES PARISH"
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, THAT ALL CITIZENS ARE URGED TO CHANGE THEIR FIRE ALARM BATTERIES FOR SAFETY.
