IN MEMORIAM
WHEREAS, on December 7, 2010 Almighty God, in His Infinite Wisdom, saw fit to call from amongst us one of his most worthy servants, Edward August Dufresne, Jr.; and,
WHEREAS, Edward August Dufresne, Jr., a lifelong resident of St. Charles Parish, was the son of Edward August Dufresne, Sr. and Irene Ludwig Delahay Dufresne, the husband of Dorothy St. Amant Dufresne, and the father of Debra Dufresne Vial, Denise Dufresne Hymel, Dana Dufresne Authement and Dawn Dufresne Dawson; and,
WHEREAS, Edward August Dufresne, Jr. served as Clerk of Court of St. Charles Parish from April 28, 1964 through December 31, 1978; and,
WHEREAS, Edward August Dufresne, Jr. served as Judge, Division D of the 29th Judicial District for the State of Louisiana, which encompassed St. Charles and St. John the Baptist Parishes, from January 1, 1979 through April 30, 1982; and,
WHEREAS, Judge Dufresne served as Judge, Division Three, Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals for the State of Louisiana, which division encompassed St. Charles Parish and the West Bank of St. John the Baptist Parish, from May 1, 1982, becoming Chief Judge on January 6, 2001, through his death on December 7, 2010; and,
WHEREAS, Judge Dufresne served in elected office for over forty-six years, only attracting opposition in his first election of 1963; a remarkable fate for any elected official; and,
WHEREAS, Judge Dufresne served as Chairman of the St. Charles Parish Home Rule Charter Commission from March 1, 1977 through the adoption of the Home Rule Charter on December 3, 1977 and continued to work closely with Parish Officials through its full implementation; and,
WHEREAS, Judge Dufresne was known throughout the State for his compassion for others, treating everyone he encountered with dignity and respect, and his strong support of all causes that improved the quality of life for the citizens of St. Charl...
