Title
A resolution in support of the Joint Resolution introduced by U. S. Senator Ted Cruz proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States relative to limiting the number of terms that a Member of Congress may serve.
Body
WHEREAS, currently, terms in both houses of Congress are unlimited, although there are limits to the number of terms Members of Congress may have on committees; and,
WHEREAS, on January 3, 2019, Senator Ted Cruz and Representative Francis Rooney proposed a resolution for a Constitutional amendment that would impose term limits on Members of both houses of Congress; and,
WHEREAS, the proposed resolution is being co-sponsored by several Members of Congress; and,
WHEREAS, the proposal would restrict Senators to two six-year terms and House Members to three two-year terms, a similar amendment was proposed by Senator Cruz in January of 2017; and,
WHEREAS, for the amendment to be enacted, it needs to be approved by two-thirds of both houses of Congress and then ratified by thirty-eight states; and,
WHEREAS, President Donald J. Trump has voiced his support for term-limits for Members of Congress; and,
WHEREAS, the Members of the St. Charles Parish Council support term-limits for Members of Congress.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, supports the Joint Resolution introduced by U. S. Senator Ted Cruz proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States relative to limiting the number of terms that a Member of Congress may serve.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to U. S. President Donald J. Trump, all U. S. Senators, all U. S. Representatives, and Governor John Bel Edwards for consideration.
