Title
A resolution requesting construction of a left turn lane and installation of a left turn signal light at the intersection of River Road (LA 18) and Paul Maillard Road (LA 52) in Luling.
Body
WHEREAS, a serious traffic hazard exists at the intersection of River Road and Paul Maillard Road in Luling due to the absence of a left turn lane; and,
WHEREAS, traffic at this intersection has increased in recent years and no changes have been made to accommodate the delay caused by this volume of traffic; and,
WHEREAS, traffic at peak hours is unnecessarily backed up on River Road at this intersection creating a traffic nightmare. Statistics show that unnecessary traffic conditions at peak traffic hours are a contributing factor in "road rage" incidents.
WHEREAS, vehicles traveling this route should be afforded protection when turning across oncoming vehicles; and,
WHEREAS, vehicles are using the shoulder of the road to pass vehicles trying to make the left turn; and,
WHEREAS, for many years use of the shoulder of LA 18 by vehicles has caused a continuous maintenance problem for the Department of Transportation and Development.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL do hereby request construction of a left turn lane and installation of a left turn signal light at the intersection of River Road (LA 18) and Paul Maillard Road (LA 52) in Luling.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution shall be forwarded to the Department of Transportation and Development, Senator Joel T. Chaisson, II, Representative Gary L. Smith, Representative Glenn B. Ansardi, and Department of Transportation and Development Legislative Liaison Mr. Tommy Martinez.
