IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Alphonse Eugene, Jr. enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in February 1993; and,
WHEREAS, he quickly established himself as a leader amongst his peers; and,
WHEREAS, at the end of basic training he was honored as the platoon's Honor Man; and,
WHEREAS, in October 1993, he was sent to Okinawa Japan attached to supply company third Force Service Support Group; and,
WHEREAS, while in the Far East, Private First Class Eugene was promoted to the rank Lance Corporal; and,
WHEREAS, within a short period of time, he was sent before the promotion board, beating his closest competitor by an astounding 12 points resulting in another promotion to the rank of Corporal, becoming a Non-Commissioned Officer; and,
WHEREAS, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in July of 1996; and,
WHEREAS, Sergeant Eugene, with less than four years of Marine Corps Experience made history by graduating from Marine Corps Drill Instructor School in January 1996, eventually training over 320 recruits; and,
WHEREAS, while still on active duty Sergeant Eugene earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice in July 2000 from National University in 29 Palms; and,
WHEREAS, now Staff Sergeant Eugene was deployed to Bahrain in the Middle East as Assistant Camp Commandant on August 1, 2002; and,
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Eugene organized the safe return of Iraqi civilians to their homes after the initial bombing campaign with no injuries or casualties; and,
WHEREAS, upon leaving the Middle East on August 1, 2003 he returned to Marine Forces Pacific where he received a Navy and Marine Corps commendation medal for his actions in Bahrain/Iraq, one of the highest personal awards a Marine can receive that is non-combat related; and,
