Title
A resolution asking the Parish Council to support forwarding a letter for an opinion from the Attorney General regarding whether a member of the Friends of the Library can serve in an appointed position on the Library Board of Control.
Body
WHEREAS, Friends of the Library is a volunteer organization as described on the attached membership form; and,
WHEREAS, Friends of the Library is dedicated to supporting the Parish Libraries; and,
WHEREAS, Friends of the Library strives to purchase items and sponsor programs which are unbudgeted in the Library's budget; and,
WHEREAS, under LS R.S. 25:214 the Library Board of Control is appointed by the Governing Authority of the Parish; and,
WHEREAS, the Library Board of Control is responsible for approving the Library's budget; and,
WHEREAS, the St. Charles Parish Council wishes for an opinion from the Attorney General as to whether there is any potential conflict of interest with a member of the Friends of the Library serving concurrently as a member of the Library Board of Control.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL, do hereby support forwarding a letter for an opinion from the Attorney General regarding whether a potential conflict of interest exist with a member of the Friends of the Library serving concurrently in an appointed position on the Library Board of Control.
