IN RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, as part of their leadership development program, and their commitment to their mission, Portland Oregon Community College Students work together to help rebuild New Orleans and provide assistance to those who are suffering from the wake of Hurricane Katrina. By dedicating their college breaks to helping others, students gain values that forever change their lives and the lives of others; and,
WHEREAS, Pat and Lori Smith, a New Sarpy couple, needed help after a contractor abandoned the work on their house that they were building after their Gentilly home was flooded and looted in Hurricane Katrina's aftermath. The group of seven Portland Community College Students proved to be a godsend to the couple. "They say they're from Portland, but they're really from heaven", said the homeowners; and,
WHEREAS, the Portland Community College Students worked endlessly by laying insulation in the attic and floor, ripping out an old fence, and doing plenty of painting; and,
WHEREAS, the solidarity the students formed with these St. Charles Parish residents demonstrates the power of unity in making positive change; and,
WHEREAS, a special THANK YOU goes out to Portland Oregon Community College Students for their commitment, dedication, and selflessness.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby offer this tribute and recognition to
PORTLAND OREGON
COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENTS
"PARISH OF PLENTY"
created in 1807 from the county of the
"German Coast", a parish of
unprecedented economic and social
development, known for its
hospitality, rural living and sporting
opportunitiesÂ… with the added
distinction of being located
on both sides of the
Mighty Mississippi River.
