Title
A resolution requesting that the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development install a protective guardrail along U. S. 61 - Airline Drive in St. Charles Parish in areas adjacent to canals and/or other waterways.
Body
WHEREAS, Airline Drive in St. Charles Parish has been the scene of many tragic accidents resulting in vehicles entering canals or other waters adjacent to the roadway; and,
WHEREAS, loss of life through drowning may not have occurred if vehicles were deterred from leaving the roadway and entering the water; and,
WHEREAS, the most important function of government is to enhance the public safety, health and welfare of its citizens; and,
WHEREAS, the St. Charles Parish Council and Parish President wish to see the Department of Transportation & Development improve the safety of this heavily traveled State Highway in St. Charles Parish in an effort to protect against the loss of human life.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT WE, THE MEMBERS OF THE ST. CHARLES PARISH COUNCIL AND THE PARISH PRESIDENT, do hereby request that the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development install a protective guardrail on U. S. 61 - Airline Drive in St. Charles Parish in areas adjacent to canals and/or other waterways.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution shall be forwarded to Governor M. J. “Mike” Foster, Senator Joel T. Chaisson, II, Representative Gary L. Smith, Jr., and Representative Glenn Ansardi requesting assistance in this urgent matter of public safety.
